Tenala-born Karl "Kalle" Augustson, born in 1941, has been active as an entrepreneur, writer and aid worker who has sent out over 400 aid shipments with food and other necessities around Finland and abroad to help people in need. Augustson's humanitarian work has extended to Romania, Iraq, Kosovo, Albania, Russia, Estonia and Latvia, among others. One of Augustson's achievements is that he has helped refugees such as the paralyzed Kurdish girl Midiya and her father to get from Iraq to Finland, thus giving them a new life.

Augustson has previously published the books Möten med ondska och godhet – minnesbilder i en backspegel (2013), Kan en länsman komma till himlen (2015), Damen i Tallinn (2017) and Ikioma leipä (2017). Skallbölebessarna – berättelser från efterkrigstidens Tenala is the precursor to his book Kan en länsman komma till himlen where he delves into his family's generational trauma and how they are treated in his home town of Tenala. In Skallbölebässarna Augustson tells entertaining stories from his childhood before he became the spectacular humanist that we know today.
